Happy Red Ribbon Week and Thursday morning! This week, there are three events occurring over the next two days that I believe very few school districts in the entire state can attest to during this current school year. Here's the rundown:
- Friday, October 31, 2025: West High School Girls and Boys Cross Country at the UIL 3A STATE Cross Country Meet at Old Settler's Park in Round Rock; Girls Start Time: 8:15 AM and Boys Start Time: 8:45 AM
- Saturday, November 1, 2025: West High School Pride of West Marching Band at the UIL 3A AREA Marching Contest at Robinson School High (Rocket Field); Performance Time: 12:45 PM
- Saturday, November 1, 2025: West High School Lady Trojan Volleyball at the UIL 3A BI-DISTRICT Volleyball Playoffs at Ennis High School versus Scurry-Rosser High School; Game Time: 2:00 PM
Wow, truly outstanding work, and football is up next. I hope you can make one or more of these events to cheer on our students.
In addition to this news, I found out via email on Tuesday that West Elementary School and West Middle School earned U.S. News & World Report 2026 Best Elementary School and Middle School rankings. This designation means these schools are among the Top 40% of elementary and middle school campuses in Texas. U.S. News & World Report includes more than 88,000 public schools ranked at the state and district levels. The 2026 Best Elementary and Best Middle Schools rankings are based on data from the U.S. Department of Education which focuses on state assessments for students who are proficient or above proficient in mathematics and reading/language arts, while accounting for student background and achievement in core subjects.
Please know I am super-proud to be part of a school district that excels in all areas. If you see any of our cross country, band, or volleyball students and coaches/directors at our schools or around town, please congratulate them on their outstanding work and commitment to greatness. Also, please thank the West Elementary and Middle School teachers, staff, and students on their special accolade as well. We are... WEST!
